About Us Li Gong, the founder of Encha Matcha, had a life-changing experience after tasting the most delicate matcha from an organic farm in Japan. Inspired, he left his job in Silicon Valley and embarked on a mission to bring high-quality, organically-farmed matcha to people around the world. In 2014, Encha Matcha was born.
Our aim is to share the same rich and tender matcha that Li Gong first tasted with everyone, from our farms in Uji, Japan to your cup at home. Discover our collection and visit our store to experience the unique flavors of our products.
What sets our matcha apart? We adhere to ancient traditions, growing shade-grown, hand-picked, and stone-ground tea leaves. These practices make a significant difference in the quality, flavor, and health benefits of our matcha. Additionally, all of Encha's matcha is USDA Certified Organic, meaning our farms are 100% certified organic. This ensures that we never use pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, and we regularly test for heavy metals and harmful chemicals.
Curious about the different grades? Encha Ceremonial Grade Matcha is ground from premium, first harvest leaves, offering a delicate and smooth taste that is best enjoyed mixed with water. Encha Latte Grade Matcha is ground from standard, first harvest leaves, and is perfect for mixing with your choice of milk, whether hot or cold. Encha Culinary Grade Matcha, on the other hand, is ground from premium, second harvest leaves and has a subtly sweet and earthy taste. It is ideal for cooking and baking.
Li Gong, the founder of Encha, has a vision to show the world that organic-only options can be accessible, affordable, and enjoyable. Through education and personalized support, he aims to grow the Encha community organically. His belief, influenced by his social science training at Stanford, is that intrinsic value doesn't need external recognition.
Next page: Product Description Looking for a clean energy boost without jitters or crashes? Our matcha provides 6 hours of clean energy and is packed with antioxidants. But what does USDA Certified Organic actually mean? It means that all of our farms are 100% organic certified, and we ensure that no heavy metals or harmful chemicals are present. We never use pesticides or synthetic fertilizers on our Japanese matcha farm. Instead, we rely on centuries-old traditions for growing, and we prioritize the natural ecosystem to produce healthy and robust tea leaves, which are shade-grown and hand-picked.
Wondering where our matcha comes from? All of our matcha is sourced from our two farms located in the hills of Uji, Japan. Our matcha powder is shade grown and stone ground to maximize flavor and health benefits.
Not sure about the differences between the three grades? In summary: Ceremonial Grade Encha is made from premium, first harvest leaves, offering a delicate and smooth taste that is best enjoyed mixed with water. Latte Grade Encha is made from standard, first harvest leaves, picked each spring. It can taste slightly more bitter when prepared with just water, but it balances well with milk of your choice. Culinary Grade Encha is made from premium, second harvest leaves, and it is perfect for cooking and baking.
What makes matcha different from green tea? Matcha leaves are shade grown, resulting in higher levels of theanine compared to green tea. Theanine provides a sense of serenity to balance out the caffeine content. Additionally, when we make matcha powder, we remove the stems, resulting in a smoother flavor. Lastly, when you consume matcha, you're consuming the entire leaf rather than steeped tea, providing additional health benefits such as antioxidants.
Encha Latte Grade Matcha Green Tea, Encha Ceremonial Grade Matcha Green Tea, and Encha Ceremonial and Culinary Grade Matcha Green Tea are all available for purchase.
